The Weekly Plant BoxThe Hen & Chick Box, Week of 8/26 Including: 6 different varieties of hens and chicks These outside succulents are very winter hardy. They need at least 6-8 hours of sunlight and like rocky/sandy soil. They need great drainage! When planted outside you should rarely have to water them. If planted in a container, clay is best and water about once a week, when the soil is dry! Give them an area to spread! If they get crowded pull off some of the babies to help spread them. |
Plants and Herbs
Barry Farms was first established with primarily herbs in mind. It is our bread and butter. We primarily grow everything from seed, cuttings or division right here on our farm. We use natural and sustainable practices. Everything is safe to eat or use straight from our farm.
We sell our plants and herbs at local farmers markets and local plant festivals. You can find us regularly on Saturday mornings at the Transylvania, Mills River and Hendersonville Farmers Markets with our more regular plants. We participate in a few local plant festivals: Growing in the Mountains, Asheville Herb Festival and The Garden Jubilee. At these shows you will find our entire plant line up. Some of these plants are rare, less common and sell out. The best time to buy is the end of April and the entire month of May! Later in the season we will continue to offer common herbs and seasonal flowering perennials! We also sell flowering Mountain Laurels that bloom in shades of pinks or reds, and a small variety of Japanese Maples.
